Peaceful Valley

I can't remember all the details but somehow in a matter of a week or two we convinced both our families to drive out for a Labor Day weekend get together. We went to Peaceful Valley which is the Scouts' plains camp. Our original plan was to go to Tahosa again but we weren't able to that weekend. I'd never been to this camp and Chris said it was quite a bit different than Tahosa but we had a blast.

It was like a private resort for a whole weekend (ok, so a primitive resort) but we had the lake and the swimming pool all to our selves for the most part. On Labor day a group of guys came out to fly there model airplanes.

It wouldn't be a family get together without a lot of yummy food. Vicki made up a meal chart and everyone chipped in cooking and cleaning. We had shrimp boil, Chris' fried rice (he now has a specialty), Mexican and pizza while we watched the BYU game in town.

One of the best parts of the camp was the unlimited use of the shooting ranges.

It didn't feel like a real camping trip if we didn't do s'mores and a campfire at least one night. However, the storm literally rolled in as we walked down to the lake. Luckily we had the lake house and a gas fire ring as the rain pounded down around us.

On Sunday we were joined by a bike race (we originally thought they were coming on Saturday) Luckily the little camp chapel was way out of the way and away from all the noise from the bike race. It really was peaceful. Even the deer decided to join us. Papa Dennis and Grandma Suzie talked about how geese fly and how we need to do the same as a family. Gram talked about nature and Heavenly Father's creations. The kids helped out with both lessons.

It was a short weekend but we fit so much in and have many fun memories. Thanks to both families for making the drive!
